Our Expert review of the Apple iPad 4th Generation
How it’s currently spec’d:
The refurbished Apple iPad 4th Generation (4th Gen) has been around a bit now, but still proves a very useable tablet. It has a 9.7, not quite 10 inch IPS touchscreen Retina Display with a 2048 x 1536 resolution at 264 pixels per inch, 16GB storage, and Wi-Fi & Bluetooth connectivity. The Apple A6X dual core processor and 1GB RAM keeps things ticking over in the background.
Where we think it excels:
It may surprise you that the iPad 4 is almost 10 years old now but it doesn’t surprise us that it’s still going. Apple does make excellent quality tablets and they just stand the test of time. Apple tablets are also great if you’re a seasoned iPad user or you’re just learning the basics, they are so user friendly literally anyone can pick one up.
What we think its drawbacks are:
Two things; storage and operating system. With only 16GB available less a few gig for the operating system and a few essential apps there isn’t a whole lot left so consider using iCloud storage, though that does incur a small additional monthly charge. The iPad 4th Gen can do a lot of things and can still run a lot of apps from the app store but because you can only update to iOS 10.3.3, the latest being 15.5, a larger number of apps including most banking apps won’t run because the operating system can’t offer the required level of security needed to protect you when using the app.
What we think of the design:
The iPad 4 is bigger and heavier than the most recent iPads but it still has the same great design.
Who it’s suitable for:
Great for anyone looking for a low cost tablet option from one of the main names in tablet computing.
