What printer cartridges does the Hewlett Packard Envy 4500 use?

The HP Envy 4500 uses the HP 301 ink cartridges. IJT Direct’s branded inks come in the high capacity version known as 301XL black & tri colour. The 301 black can print up to 190 pages and the colour is up to 165pages. Whereas the 301XL cartridges can print up to 480 pages from black and 330 pages from the tri colour. These numbers are based on 5% coverage of an A4 page.

Our thoughts on Design

The HP Envy 4500 is a simple printer that has a flatbed scanner on the top and a simple display screen so you can easily select the function required. The front loading paper tray can comfortably hold 100 sheet of copy paper at a time and when not in use you can close this tray to save space.  The printer’s dimensions are 445x334x390mm.

Main Printer Advantages

The HP-4500 features HP’s mobile printing app HP ePrint allowing you to connect with many smart phones and tablets, you can also connect wirelessly to a PC/laptop or via USB cable. This printer comes with HP photo creations software to help you create wonderful pictures.  You can also save paper by using the auto duplex option meaning it will print on both sides of the paper without having to turn the page.

Main Printer Disadvantages

The HP 4500 can limit the user as the print speeds are quite slow at only up to 8.8 pages per minute for black and 5.2 pages per minute colour. Using HP’s two ink system it does make this printer more expensive to run, you can get better running costs by using our IJT recycled cartridges. This model also does not have an ADF or fax option.

Running costs - Are the inks good value for money?

We think the HP Envy 4500 e-All-in-One could have better running costs. As this machine uses a HP 301 ink cartridges as part of a 2 ink system they tend to be more expensive to run, especially with the tri colour cartridge as if you run out of a colour you need to replace the whole cartridge. You can get better running costs by purchasing high quality IJT Direct branded inkjets, where you can get great value high yield cartridges at low prices.
