What printer cartridges does the Canon Pixma MX495 use?

The Canon Pixma MX495 uses Canon PG-545 and CL-546 IJT branded recycled ink available in both standard and high capacities. The standard Black PG-545 and tricolour CL-546 cartridges can print up to 180 pages, our IJT branded inks are available in the high capacity cartridges, the PG-545XL capable of printing up to 400 pages and the CL-546XL up to 300 pages. These numbers are based on 5% coverage of an A4 page.

The team of experts here at IJT Direct think the Canon MX495 is a great entry level home multi-function printer; it has all the features of a standard all in one including fax capabilities, rare to find in similar lower budget inkjet machines.  Being both Windows and Mac compatible as well as supporting lots of other mobile printing applications, there are plenty of ways to connect to the MX495.

Our thoughts on Design

The MX495 is only available in black, despite having a 20 sheet automatic document feeder it has a small footprint measuring just 435mmx295mmx189mm (WxDxH) and weighing less than 6kg. This machine has a flatbed scanner and a 2 line mono screen with a control panel of membrane buttons for navigating through printer functions. Aswell as the 20 sheet ADF there is a 100 sheet input tray which can hold A4, A5, B5 and many other media types.

Main Printer Advantages

For an all in one inkjet the MX495 is very reasonably priced, this is surprising when considering the quality of the prints it can produce with resolutions of 4800 x 1200dpi as well as impressive scan and copy quality. Cleverly the integrated ADF can fold shut when not in use to prevent dust build up which could affect machine operation, additionally the MX495 is capable of mobile printing through Wifi Direct from both Android and Apple devices.

Main Printer Disadvantages

Unlike a lot of inkjet machines in the market the MX495 has no Colour LCD touch screen, instead having a small screen and a set of buttons limiting the control over print jobs. There is also no duplex feature on the MX495 which would slow down large print jobs but the main disadvantage of the Pixma MX495 is the 2 ink system. As this machine takes a tri-colour cartridge rather than 3 individual colour cartridges, you have to replace the whole cartridge when you may only be out of 1 colour.

Running costs - Are the inks good value for money?

As mentioned above, the Pixma MX495 good have better running costs however you can save money by sticking to the high capacity inks, although if using original Canon cartridges your running costs will soon mount up.
