What printer cartridges does the Canon Pixma MG2950 use?

The Canon MG2950 uses PGI545 and CLI546 ink cartridges; these are available in both standard and high capacities with IJT Direct branded inks available in the high capacity. The standard cartridges can print up to 180 pages each, and the high capacity PGI-545XL and CLI-546XL cartridges are capable of printing up to 400 pages for the black and 300 pages for the colour cartridge. This is based on 5% coverage on an A4 page.

Our IJT Direct printer experts think the Canon MG2950 is a good budget multifunction printer; it can connect through both USB and wirelessly. This printer uses the canon FINE cartridge system which can produce prints of up to 4800 x 600dpi resolution and has both scanning and copying capabilities. The MG2950 is also smartphone and tablet ready through the canon PRINT app, simplifying printing from almost all devices.

Our thoughts on Design

The Pixma MG2950 is only available in white; it measures 426mmx306mmx145mm (WxDxH) and weighs approximately 3.5kg. There is one rear fed paper tray which can hold up to a maximum of 60 sheets of a4 plain paper although different media sizes and types are supported including photo paper. The printer has a CIS flatbed photo and document scanner capable of creating up to 21 copies and an a4 scan speed of approximately 14 seconds.

Main Printer Advantages

For a A4 multifunction inkjet printer, the Canon MG2950 is very well proportioned with a small footprint that means it can fit into most spaces making it the perfect home printer. The wireless connectivity and canon PIXMA cloud link means you can print from pretty much anywhere instantly.

Main Printer Disadvantages

The main limiting factor to the MG2950 for use in the home is that the paper feeding and printing mechanism is quite noisy, despite the fact there is no duplex function. The print speeds of the Pixma MG2950 are also quite slow at just 8ipm for mono prints and 4ipm for colour prints, much slower than other available inkjets. Although the MG 2950 produces a good standard of text printing, the resolution is not high enough for printing high detail photographs, even when using photo paper
