What printer cartridges does the Epson Expression Premium XP540 use?

The Epson XP 540 uses five individual IJT Direct branded ink cartridges, comprising of black, photo black, cyan, magenta and yellow. There are two capacities known as 33 and 33XL, the Epson original inks have a picture of an Orange on the front of the packaging. The Epson 33 black can print up to 175 pages and the colours can do up to 180 pages. Whereas the high capacity 33XL range can print up to 470 pages from black and 450 pages from each colour. This is based on 5% coverage of an A4 page.

It uses Epson’s 5 ink system so you only have to replace the colour cartridge that is empty. This machine can print, scan and copy up to A4 with a high quality printing image resolution of 5,760x1,440dpi.

Our thoughts on Design

The Epson XP-540 looks very stylish it has been finished in sleek black and its size is just 390x341x138mm.This model has rear feeding paper tray that can hold up to 100 sheets of copier paper or 20 photo sheets. On the top of the printer there is a flatbed scanner for your scanning and copying. There is an easily accessible SD card slot right at the front of the printer; you can view you pictures before printing on the user friendly 3.7cm colour screen.

Main Printer Advantages

The compact Epson 540 printer offers print, scan and copy all up to A4; it accepts a wide variety of media sizes and weights. This printer has an automatic duplex function which can be used to save paper usage; you can save more on your printing costs by using our high capacity recycled inks. This printer comes with Epson’s Red eye removal, Photo Enhance and Wireless PictBridge features which can be useful when printing pictures.  You’ll be impressed by the printing speeds of 32paged per minute on plain paper and 20 seconds per 10x15cm photo. There are many connection options for this printer including WIFI, USB, WIFI Direct, Epson Connect, Apple AirPrint and Google Cloud Print.

Main Printer Disadvantages

From new the XP 540 all in one printer had no options for fax or automatic document feeder which could be limiting for some users. Also the paper tray only holds 100 sheets of copier paper at a time.

Running costs - Are the inks good value for money?
