What printer cartridges does the Canon Maxify MB2050 use?

The Canon Maxify MB2050 takes PGI-1500 inks with 4 cartridges in a set. The set is made up of a Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow. The standard black cartridge can print up to 400 pages and each of the colours can print up to 300 pages. These are also high capacity cartridges known as PGI-1500XL which our IJT-branded cartridges are available in, the black can print up to 1200 pages, the cyan 1020 pages, the magenta 780 pages and the yellow 935 pages. This is based on 5% coverage on an A4 page.

Our thoughts on Design

The Canon MB2050 is a compact simple design. The black case has a receded top panel which has a 6.2xm colour LCD screen, number pad and other control buttons which are used to manage current and queued printer jobs. There is 1 paper tray with an impressive capacity of 250 sheets of plain A4 paper as well as support for other media types including photo paper up to 275g/m2. On top of the MB2050 is an A4 flatbed scanner with an ADF capable of holding 50 sheets of paper at a time.

Main Printer Advantages

As well as the USB and wireless connectivity options the MB2050 supports a range of mobile printing applications including Apple AirPrint and Google Cloud Print. You can also print from and scan directly to email. The Maxify MB2050 has a few additional features above the standard 4 in 1 functionality that makes it suitable for office as well as home printing, firstly the integrated ADF makes scanning long documents effortless, you can load the document and leave the printer to continue scanning with no user input, secondly the MB2050 can automatically duplex print.

Main Printer Disadvantages

The main drawback of the Canon Maxify MB 2050 is the printing speeds are quite slow. Producing a maximum of 16ipm in mono mode and 11ipm colour print, there is no draft mode available to increase this number. Also the MB2050 has a large footprint of 463 x 389 x 260 mm (W x D x H) so it is quite bulky; this is mostly down to the large paper tray. Despite having a large paper capacity this is over just 1 tray so in order to change media you have to replace all the installed paper unlike printers with specialty media trays.

Running costs - Are the inks good value for money?

Yes we think the Maxify MB2050 has good running costs, the individual colours and different capacity inks makes printing efficient over both high and small print loads. You can reduce the running costs further by using our recycled IJT branded recycled inks which will save money compared to using original Canon inks.
