What printer cartridges does the HP Officejet 5740 use?
 
The HP Officejet 5740 uses a 2 ink system with HP 62 ink cartridges. Our IJT Direct branded inks are also compatible and are supplied as standard and high capacity cartridges known as 62XL, available for both black & tri colour. The standard 62 ink cartridges print up to 200 pages for black and 165 pages for the colour cartridge, whereas the high capacity inks can print up to 600 pages with the black cartridge and 415 pages for the tri-colour. These numbers are based on 5% coverage of an A4 page.

Our thoughts on Design
 
The OfficeJet 5740 comes in either white or black and are equipped with a 6.75cm colour touch screen control panel on the front and a flatbed scanner. This compact printer weighs less than 8kg, has a small footprint and features a 125 sheet paper tray which can take A4 paper up to 90 g/m² and photo paper up to 250 g/m².
 
Main Printer Advantages
 
Aswell as wireless, network and USB connectivity, the 5740 has both a USB port and SD card port neatly hidden on the front of the printer allowing you to print directly from a USB stick or SD card. This compact home printer also has a 25 sheet ADF which will speed up any multi-page jobs and also save you paper at the same time.
 
Main Printer Disadvantages
 
The main limiting feature of the OfficeJet 5740 is the printing speed. Compared to others it is relatively slow and produces up to 12ppm in mono and 8ppm in colour. In addition the scan facility is quite basic, it doesn’t offer auto-exposure and struggles to scan images at high resolutions.

Running costs - Are the inks good value for money?
 
In short no, the inks for the HP OfficeJet 5740 are not good value for money especially when replacing with original HP cartridges. The main reason being this printer is a 2 ink system so you have to replace the whole tri-colour cartridge every time you run out of just one colour.
