What printer cartridges does the Hewlett Packard Envy 4504 a-All-in-One use?

The HP Envy 4504 e-All-in-One takes HP 301 standard and 301XL high capacity cartridges, our IJT branded recycled inks are available in the high capacity. There is a black and tricolour cartridge in each set; the standard 301 black ink can print up to 170 pages and the tricolour up to 150 pages whereas the high capacity 301XL can print up to 430 pages and the tricolour up to 300 pages. These numbers are based on 5% coverage of an A4 page.

The HP Envy 4504 is a capable all in one printer best suited for home users with low to moderate printing needs. The Envy 4504 e All in One can be used for photo and document printing producing resolutions up to 4800 x 1200dpi, as well as printing the Envy 4504 has copy and scan functions. 

Our thoughts on Design

The HP Envy 4504 has a black case with a silver front panel which houses a mono LCD display with various buttons and icons through which all of the printer jobs can be controlled. For paper handling there is a single paper tray that can hold up to 50 sheets of plain paper aswell as other media types including card, envelopes and 10x15cm photo paper.

Main Printer Advantages

Like many similar multifunction inkjets the HP e-All-in-One 4504 has wireless connectivity along with standard USB, there is also support for mobile printing for most android and iOS devices through applications that include Apple AirPrint and HP ePrint. For a printer of this budget the printing speeds are very respectable, it can print up to 30 mono ppm and 25 colour ppm in draft printing mode, also the quality of the prints produced is great which is probably the main and most important selling point of the Envy 4504 model. 

Main Printer Disadvantages

The HP Envy 4504 does have a few limiting factors, firstly both the input and output trays have quite low paper capacities, but this shouldn’t be a major issue for a home user. Also the Envy 4504 is missing any fax capability as it is only a 3 in 1 multifunction printer; another disadvantage to the Envy 4504 is the ink system which using a black and tri-colour cartridges as opposed to individual colour inks.

Running costs - Are the inks good value for money?

The HP Envy 4504 can be quite expensive to run. The 2 ink system means that you have to replace the whole tri-colour cartridge when any one of the colours runs out. To reduce these costs you should use the high capacity cartridges but even then choosing original HP ink replacements will cause your running costs to mount up, especially with high print loads.
