The Brother MFC-J470DW takes Brother LC121 and LC123 inks, there are 4 cartridges in a set; Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow. Our thoughts on Design

The Brother MFC-470DW has a black case and overall dimensions of 410 x 374 x 180 mm (WxDxH). The front of the printer has a 4.5 Colour LCD screen with a series of push buttons for printer management. The input capacity of the MFC-470DW comes from a single input tray which can hold up to 100 sheets of plain paper, the output tray has a capacity of 50 sheets and there is a 20 page ADF which makes long scanning jobs effortless.

Main Printer Advantages

The printing speeds of the MFC 470DW are very good for a multifunction inkjet of this budget; it can achieve up to 33 mono prints per minute and 27 colour. As well as the variety of connectivity options the MFC470 DW can work as a standalone copier and fax machine with no connected device. The office focused features of the ADF and automatic duplexer are great additions to the printer, both make printing and scanning more efficient.

Main Printer Disadvantages

A limiting feature of the Brother MFC 470 is the paper capacity; it can only hold a maximum of 100 sheets in the input tray so the paper tray will have to be regularly refilled with only moderate use, also there is no option to add any additional paper trays to increase this capacity. Additionally the quality of text prints produced is not excellent, certainly not of presentation quality and the photo printing support is minimal which could be disappointing for home users.      

Running costs - Are the inks good value for money?
