What printer cartridges does the Hewlett Packard Envy 5530 use?

The HP Envy-5530 uses the HP 301 ink cartridges. IJT Direct’s branded inks come in the high capacity version known as 301XL black & tri colour. The 301 black can print up to 190 pages and the colour is up to 165pages. Whereas the 301XL cartridges can print up to 480 pages from black and 330 pages from the tri colour. These numbers are based on 5% coverage of an A4 page.

Our thoughts on Design

The Envy-5530 has a flatbed scanner on the top and a simple handy 6.4cm touch screen. The front loading paper tray can hold 100 sheets of copy paper at a time.  The printer’s dimensions are 445x334x120mm.

Main Printer Advantages

The HP-5530 all in one looks very smart; it was available in black with a white front panel. It features HP’s mobile printing app HP ePrint allowing you to connect with many smart phones and tablets. You can also connect wirelessly to a PC/laptop or have a wired connection using a USB cable. HP has also added their Photo Creations software in this printer. This printer has an automatic duplex print option so you can save you paper usage by printing on both sides without having to turn the page manually.

Main Printer Disadvantages

The HP 5530 can be limiting as print speeds are pretty slow at only up to 8.8 pages per minute for black and 5.2 pages per minute colour. Using HP’s two ink system it does make this printer more expensive to run, you can get better running costs by using our IJT recycled cartridges. The output capacity on this model is quite low, the tray can only hold 30 sheets of A4 copy paper or 10 sheets of photo paper; if you were doing a large print job you would need to keep empting the tray. This model also does not have an ADF or fax option.

Running costs - Are the inks good value for money?

We think the HP Envy5530 could have better running costs. As this machine uses a 2 ink system they tend to be more expensive to run, especially with the tri colour cartridge as if you run out of a colour you need to replace the whole cartridge. You can get better running costs by purchasing high quality IJT Direct branded inkjets, where you can get great value high yield cartridges at low prices.
