What printer cartridges does the Canon Pixma MG3550 use?

The Canon Pixma MG3550 uses Canon PG540 and CL541 cartridges; this 2 ink system has a black and tri-colour cartridge. Our IJT Direct branded inks are available in both the standard and high capacities. The standard black and colour cartridges can print up to 180 pages each, whereas the high capacity black PG-540XL can print up to 600 pages and the high capacity colour CL-541XL up to 400 pages. This is based on 5% coverage on an A4 page

The Canon Pixma MG3550 is a great entry level all in one printer according to the IJT printer experts, the photo and document printing capabilities are both impressive thanks to the FINE cartridge system which can recreate resolutions up to 4800 x 1200dpi. In addition the Pixma MG3550 has support for mobile and tablet printing as well as standard USB and wireless this makes printing possible from most devices in most places.

Our thoughts on Design

The Canon Pixma MG3550 is available in white, black and red models, they have a very simple design with a CIS flatbed photo and document scanner is on the top of the printer and control panel to the left of it with buttons for managing printer jobs. The input tray is enclosed within the body of the printer and can hold up to 100 sheets of paper as well as other media sizes and types.

Main Printer Advantages

For the low initial cost of the MG3550 the print quality that it can achieve is very impressive, the scanner quality is also surprising for such a basic machine. As well as the basic print, scan and copy functions the Canon Pixma MG3550 has additional features such as automatic duplex printing which reduces paper consumption and makes producing double sided prints effortless. 

Main Printer Disadvantages

One down side to the Canon PIXMA MG3550 is the printing speeds which are quite slow, the maximum numbers of mono prints it can produce in 1 minute is 10 and colour prints up to 6. Another disadvantage of this printer is the 2 ink system it uses which can end up making running your printer costly, the MG3550 also has a very simple control panel with no touch screen display to manage printer jobs.

Running costs - Are the inks good value for money?

As mentioned the Canon Pixma MG3550 could have better running costs, especially if using original Canon inks, the 2 ink system significantly increases the amount you will need to spend on running your printer and the ink that is wasted.
