Saving you money, one print at a time

Printing costs can quickly stack up, especially when you are printing in mass production at home, in a small business or, your print layout just isn't quite right... we’ve all been there.

So, what can you do to save money on your printing costs? Well, we have a few ideas.

As if our ink cartridge costs weren't reasonable enough, if you sign up to the IJT Direct mailing list you will receive extra discounts on not only ink cartridges but also on electronic goods like laptops, camera’s tablets and even Apple products - great!

Another simple way to save money on printing is to duplex print. If you often print things like posters, flyers, appointment cards and vouchers, then have you tried duplex printing? This term is used to describe double-sided printing which is easy to do. If you have a business and you often run sales promotions, then you can create a simple sales message on one side; universal enough to be customised each time you have a new sale on and then update the message with the new sale information. You can also print your branding and logo on the other side of the paper.

If you haven't got a duplex printer, don’t worry, at IJT Direct, we are giving one away - the Canon Pixma MG5750 when you purchase 3 sets of ink from us.

A very effective tool which is built into your printer is Print Preview. This tool will show you how your document, poster or image will look once it is printed and this, in turn, makes it easier for you to select the parts you need printing instead of printing the whole document if you don’t actually need too.

Have you tried printing in a smaller font? Well, logic dictates that a smaller font uses up less space which means that you are using less paper when you print. What would usually spread over 3 pages, can now cover just two pages – simple. To make sure that your readers can still read whilst in a smaller font, use a clear font that isn’t too thick or curly. According to a recent Which? survey, Times New Roman is the most economical font which produces 44% (on average) more prints from an ink cartridge.

Purchasing recycled ink cartridges is also a great way to save pennies on printing.

The IJT Direct ink cartridges perform just as well as original ink cartridges and they save you a considerable amount of money! For example, the IJT branded Brother DCP 110 ink cartridges cost just £5.49 for a black compared to originals for the same model at a whopping £19.95! And the Dell 2130 Laser Printer toner's cost £11.95 for black and colour toner from us, whereas the originals for this model cost £99.95 for the black and £129.95 for the colour in the original toner!

We hope this has helped you save money on your printing costs. If you have any other queries, please don't hesitate to get in touch with our team on 0800 083 4555 or email us at info@ijtdirect.co.uk

Will Compatible Ink Cartridges invalidate my Printer Warranty?

This question is one that we get asked a lot, and it’s understandable why with leading ink cartridge manufacturers scaremongering. However, the answer is not as transparent as we would like it to be – but – it does depend on which warranty you are referring to.

Getting down to the detail...

All manufacturers are legally required to give a 1-year guarantee on electrical items. This is something that they cannot have any other terms on.

So, if your printer was purchased within the last 12months, then the supplier must prove that third part ink cartridges were the cause of any fault to the printer. Whilst they would like to be able too, they cannot blame compatible cartridges. We recommend reading your warranty and then bringing their attention to the details likely to say “warranty does not apply if the damage is caused by non-original ink cartridges”.
The manufacturer then needs to arrange an engineer visit to determine the cause of the fault. If it was the printer, then great, they’ll sort it promptly but if it is the ink cartridges then your supplier guarantee will cover you here.

If your printer has an extended warranty after 12 months from the date you purchased it, then this option means that the manufacturer can set their own terms. This also means that they can void your warranty if you used third-party cartridges. If you encounter this, follow these steps.

1. Contact your manufacturer as the problem might actually be a known printer faulty.
2. If the manufacturer won’t help, call your supplier and explain the problem.
3. If there’s a chance the ink cartridges are at fault, the supplier will arrange an independent engineer to fix
the problem.
4. If the cartridge is found to be the cause, then the supplier should cover it.
5. If the printer is the problem, then you have an engineer's report to take back to the manufacturer.

At IJT Direct, we undertake to replace immediately any unsatisfactory products and if you are totally unsatisfied with our products, we'll refund you. Our ink cartridge cartridges will give at least the same quality of print as original equipment. We guarantee that your warranty and maintenance agreement will not be affected using our cartridges. We warranty that if one of our cartridges damages your printer we will repair or replace it free of charge.

We hope this advice has helped, but if you have any questions just get in touch!
