What printer cartridges does the Canon Pixma MX535 use?

The Canon Pixma MX-535 uses Canon PG540 black and CL541 2 ink system black and colour cartridges. Our IJT Direct branded inks are available in both the standard and high capacities. The standard black and colour cartridges can print up to 180 pages each, whereas the black high capacity (PG-540XL) can print up to 600 pages and the colour (CL-541XL) up to 400 pages. This is based on 5% coverage on an A4 page.

Our experts here at IJT Direct think the Canon Pixma MX-535 is a great budget small office or home all in one printer, it supports both USB and wireless connections and can connect to multiple devices simultaneously. The Pixma MX535 can also connect to various cloud services including PIXMA Cloud Link, Apple AirPrint and Google Cloud Print.

Our thoughts on Design

The Canon PIXMA MX-535 is available in black; it has a flatbed scanner with a 30 sheet Automatic Document Feeder which makes multi-page scanning jobs quicker, and a 100 sheet capacity input tray. These input and output trays have to be manually extended before printing starts which keeps the printer’s footprint small when not in use. The front of the MX535 has a control panel with various buttons for managing printer jobs and a 2 line mono display.

Main Printer Advantages

The print quality of the Pixma MX535 is extremely good for a machine of this budget; it can print at resolutions up to 4800 x 1200dpi and as fast a 9.7 ppm for mono prints and 5.5ppm for colour prints. Additionally the scan, fax and copy features on the MX-535 are also very good, this is rare as many budget all-in-one inkjet machines can usually only perform well across one or two of its functions.

Main Printer Disadvantages

The main drawback of the Canon MX-535 is that it uses a 2 ink system of black and tri-colour cartridges; this means you have to replace the whole cartridge when any one of the colours runs out which significantly increases running costs compared to having individual colour cartridges. Another limiting feature of the MX535 is its size when running, when the input and output trays are extended it almost doubles the depth of the printer, these trays have to be manually extended unlike other similar printers where they extend automatically before printing starts.

Running costs - Are the inks good value for money?

As already mentioned the Canon Pixma MX 535 could have better running costs, especially if replacing with original Canon inks, the 2 ink system significantly increases the amount you will need to spend on running your printer.
