What printer cartridges does the Canon Pixma MX725 use?

The Canon Pixma MX725 uses Canon PGI-550 and CLI-551 inks, these are available in standard and high capacities with each set comprising of Pigment Black, Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow. The standard PGI-550PGBK pigment black can print up to 300 pages, the CLI-551 black up to 495 and the CLI-551 colours up to 330 pages each. Our IJT branded inks are available in the high capacity, the pigment black PGI-550 can print up to 500 pages, the black CLI-551 up to 1125 pages and each of the colours can print up to 685 pages. This is based on 5% coverage on an A4 page.

Our thoughts on Design

Available in black with dimensions of 491 x 396  x 231 mm and a weight of 11.7kg the Canon Pixma MS725 is a substantial machine. On the front if a dual function panel which features a 2.5’’ colour TFT display and associated control buttons. The scanner has a 35 sheet DADF and there are 2 paper tray; 1 for plain paper with a 250 sheet capacity and a separate 20 sheet envelope/ photo paper cassette.

Main Printer Advantages

The paper handling is a stand out feature of the Canon Pixma MS725, the total input capacity of 250 sheets is particularly high in comparison to other printers of this budget. In addition the MS725 creates exceptional quality prints for both standard and photo prints; it is capable of printing up to resolutions of 9600 x 2400dpi. Other notable aspects of the Pixma MS725 are the fully integrated duplex ADF, automatic 2-sided printing and simplified control panel.

Main Printer Disadvantages

A drawback to the Canon PIXMA MS725 is the printing speeds which are not that fast, it can only achieve up to 15ipm mono prints and 10ipm for colour; this is even slower when duplex printing. Evident from the dimensions above the MS725 is a considerable size and weight, much heavier than comparable home printers.

Running costs - Are the inks good value for money?

Yes the PIXMA MS725 has cheaper running costs, the 5 ink system means that only the empty cartridges needs to be replaced unlike a tri-colour cartridge in a 2 ink system.
