Here at IJT Direct our printer experts believe the Canon Pixma Pro 100 is an excellent professional photo printer with the added extra of support for A3+ media. The quality of the prints and photos it produces is outstanding; it is capable of printing resolutions up to 4800 x 2400dpi. The Pixma Pro 100 has a USB PictBridge port to connect directly to compatible devices as well as standard USB, network and wireless connection options.

Our thoughts on Design

The Canon Pro 100 is a stylish machine; the black and chrome casing has a high build quality look and feel. The Pixma Pro 100 has a 150 sheet capacity input tray which can hold plain paper, photo paper, and envelopes. As well as the standard input tray there is a single sheet manual feed tray and a 1 disc DVD/CD-R tray. The dimensions of the printer are 689 x 385 x 215 mm (WxDxH) and it has a total weight of 19.7Kg.

Main Printer Advantages

The range of supported media types is great selling point of the Canon Pixma Pro100, as well as direct disc printing it can print onto specialised media like t shirt transfers, this variety of media makes this a great option for all types of professional and amateur photographers. As well as the variety of media types supported the supported sizes are also a great feature, the support for up to A3+ size is rare for dedicated photo printers, even more impressive is that the quality of print produced is still excellent in this larger size. There is also a pro mode which creates prints exactly as they appear on screen.

Main Printer Disadvantages

A significant drawback to the Pixma Pro100 is the size; the footprint is quite large and only just weighs less than 20Kg! Another disadvantage is that the Pro 100 only supports manual duplex printing meaning each page has to be turned over to achieve a double sided print, although the printer is mainly for photos so this shouldn’t be a real problem, the same as the lack of multifunction features.

Running costs - Are the inks good value for money?

We think the Canon Pixma Pro100 can be expensive to run; there is only 1 capacity of each colour cartridge of which the original Canon inks can be costly if you are printing lots.
