What printer cartridges does the Epson Expression Premium XP520 use?
 
The Epson XP 520 uses five individual IJT Direct branded ink cartridges comprising of black, photo black, cyan, magenta and yellow. There are two capacities known as 26 and 26XL, the Epson original inks have a picture of a Polar Bear on the front of the packaging. The IJT direct range offers both standard and high capacity cartridges. The standard Epson 26 black cartridge can print up to 220 pages and the colours can print up to 300 pages each. Whereas, the high capacity 26XL range can print up to 500 pages from the black and up to 700 pages per colour cartridge. This is based on 5% coverage of an A4 page.

The IJT Direct printer experts think the Epson XP 520 is a great reasonably priced photo printer with the added benefit of the multi-function features. The printer itself has a 100 sheet paper tray which has a capacity of 20 sheets if housing photo paper. The XP520 can print with resolutions up to 5760 x 1440 dpi thanks to the Claria five ink System resulting in outstanding quality prints. This printer also allows for borderless printing and is able to automatically duplex print, speeding up any print jobs.
 
Our thoughts on Design
 
The Epson XP520 is an extremely compact All in one printer weighing just 6.2kg and with a small footprint of 390x341x138 mmmeaning it will fit into most spaces. It has a colour flatbed scanner on the top and a tilting front panel featuring a 1.4’’ LCD screen as well as other control buttons. The front of the machine also has the paper tray for all media types, and there is an SD card slot which allows for printing directly from an SD/ Micro SD card.
 
Main Printer Advantages
 
No doubt the best feature of the Expression  Premium XP520 is the print quality itself; the images produced can rival any dedicated photo printer. The multiple connectivity options, including the SD Card slot allow for easy printing from all devices. For a reasonably priced multifunction printer the speeds are also impressive at 32ppm for both mono and colour printing and 20 seconds per 10x15cm photo.
 
Main Printer Disadvantages
 
The LCD screen featured on the XP 520 is quite small at only 3.5cm so it can be difficult to use at times to manage printing jobs, there is also no obvious back button. The paper input tray on the XP520 is also hard to access being positioned at the bottom of the printer beneath the output tray. This multifunction is also lacking an ADF and has no faxing facility.
 
Running costs - Are the inks good value for money?
 
Here at IJT Direct we think the Epson Expression Premium XP 520 printer has great running costs especially when using our low cost, high capacity, great quality inkjet cartridges.
