What printer cartridges does the Epson Expression Premium XP-55 use?

The Epson Expression Premium XP-55 uses IJT Branded Epson 24 cartridges which have an elephant on the original Epson retail packaging. Each set comprises of 6 colours; Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Light Cyan and Light Magenta with cartridges available in standard and high capacities. Our IJT branded inks are available in the high capacity. The standard black 24 cartridge can print up to 240 pages and each colour cartridge can print up to 360 pages whereas the high capacity 24XL black can print up to 500 pages and the colours up to 740 pages each. This is based on 5% coverage on an A4 page.

Our printer experts think the Epson XP-55 is an excellent inkjet printer which is especially perfect for photographers. This printer uses a 6 Claria photo HD colour ink system which creates flawless print qualities of resolutions up 5760 x 1440dpi; these photo-realistic prints are also produced quickly with a printing speed of up to 10 seconds per photograph. 

Our thoughts on Design

The Epson XP55 comes in white with 2 paper trays and a single sheet rear feed for specialty media. The main paper tray can hold up to 100 sheets of plain A4 paper and the secondary tray is dedicated to photo paper with a capacity of 20 sheets. On the front of the Epson XP 55 there are just 6 control buttons and 5 LEDS for managing printer jobs, this simplifies printing as most of the management is done on the connected device. 

Main Printer Advantages

For a specialist photo printer the print speeds are quick for standard paper as well as photo with a maximum print speed of 32ppm for both mono and colour prints. The XP-55 has plenty of extra printing features; it can automatically duplex print, print borderless, and print directly onto CD/DVDs via the specialty media feed. Furthermore the dual paper handling present in the XP-55 means there is no need to change the media when switching between photo and standard printing. A bonus for photographers the XP-55 has a USB socket for a PictBridge cable allowing printing directly from a compatible camera, another connection option on top of the mobile printing, wireless and standard USB. 

Main Printer Disadvantages

One downside to the Epson Expression Premium XP 55 is its size, for a single function A4 inkjet it has a large footprint of 390 x 338 x 141 mm (WxDxH), there is also no LCD screen so depending on the connected device controlling print jobs could be tricky.

Running costs - Are the inks good value for money?

Yes we think the XP55 does have good running costs, especially if using our great quality recycled inkjets.
