What printer cartridges does the Epson Expression Premium XP-645 use?

The Epson Expression Premium XP-645 uses Epson 33 cartridges; there are 5 individual inks in each set being black, photo black, cyan, magenta and yellow cartridge. There are two capacities known as 33 and 33XL, the Epson original inks have a picture of an Orange on the front of the packaging and our IJT branded cartridges are available in the high capacity. The Epson 33 standard photo black and black can print up to 220 pages and the colours can print up to 300 pages each whereas the high capacity 33XL range can print up to 530 pages from each black and 650 pages from each colour. This is based on 5% coverage of an A4 page.

Our expert analysis & summary:

The Epson Expression Premium XP-645 is a great all in one printer aimed towards home users, specifically those who do a lot of photo printing. Importantly the print quality of the XP-645 is excellent; it is capable of printing resolutions up to 5760 x 1440dpi which creates crisp colour prints. The XP-645 is compatible with multiple mobile printing applications making printing from most devices from almost anywhere possible.

Our thoughts on Design

The Epson Expression Premium XP-645 is the white model in this printer series, similar to the black model it has a 6.8cm colour touch screen control panel through which all printer operations can be managed. Also on the front of the printer is a memory card, USB and PictBridge port for connecting directly to the inserted device. The Epson XP-645 has dual paper trays, the main input tray can hold up to 100 sheets of plain paper and the additional paper tray is specifically for photo paper, it can hold up to 20 sheets at a time.

Main Printer Advantages

A couple of the advantages to the XP-645 have already been mentioned, the connectivity options are extensive with the ability to print from pretty much any device as well as from cloud services. Also the dual paper trays allow the user to change between text and photo printing without having to swap the media. Other extra features of the XP-645 include borderless printing, red eye removal and direct CD/DVD disc printing via a speciality media feed. 

Main Printer Disadvantages

The Epson Expression XP-645 is missing a few features though; there is no fax function and no ADF so scanning documents has to be done a single sheet at a time. Also a potential drawback is the printing speeds, while the draft mode printing speeds are not slow in the ISO mode the XP-645 can only produce a maximum of 13 mono prints a minute and 10 colour.

Running costs - Are the inks good value for money?

We think the Epson Expression Premium XP-645 has great running costs. Using our IJT branded cartridges will cost you a lot less compared to using original Epson inks, our recycled cartridges are great quality and available in the same high capacities as the original inks but for a fraction of the cost.
