What printer cartridges does the Hewlett Packard DeskJet 1010 use?

The HP DeskJet 1010 uses the HP 301 ink cartridges. IJT Direct’s branded inks come in the high capacity version known as 301XL black & tri colour. The 301 black can print up to 190 pages and the colour is up to 165pages. Whereas the 301XL cartridges can print up to 480 pages from black and 330 pages from the tri colour. These numbers are based on 5% coverage of an A4 page.

Our experts here at IJT Direct think the HP DeskJet 1010 would be suitable for a home user. This printer has a maximum image resolution of 1,200x1,200 dpi so it would be able to complete most basic home printing tasks.

Our thoughts on Design

The DeskJet1010 is a simple printer that is just a printer and weighs just 2kg. The rear loading paper tray can hold up to 60 sheets of A4 copier paper at a time.

Main Printer Advantages

The HP1010 can take lots of different paper weights including up to 300gsm photo paper, 64-90gsm A4 paper, 200gsm card and labels up to 0.23mm thick. This printer can cope with most home printer tasks. 

Main Printer Disadvantages

The HP DJ1010 does not have WIFI therefore it can only be connected using a USB cable to your computer.  This printer is a bit on the slower side with print speeds of up to 20 pages per minute monochrome. With this machine being just a printer it doesn’t have the capability to scan or copy.

Running costs - Are the inks good value for money?

We think the HP DeskJet-1010 could have better running costs. As this machine uses a 2 ink system they tend to be more expensive to run, especially with the tri colour cartridge as if you run out of a colour you need to replace the whole cartridge. You can get better running costs by purchasing high quality IJT Direct branded inkjets, where you can get great value high yield cartridges at low prices.
