What printer cartridges does the Hewlett Packard Deskjet 3050A use?

The HP Deskjet 3050A takes HP 301 standard capacity cartridges and 301XL high capacity cartridges, our IJT branded recycled inks are available in the high capacity. There are 2 cartridges in each set; black and tricolour, the standard 301 black ink can print up to 170 pages and the tricolour up to 150 pages whereas the high capacity 301XL can print up to 430 pages and the tricolour up to 300 pages. These numbers are based on 5% coverage of an A4 page.

Our thoughts on Design

The Deskjet 3050A comes in a black and grey case with a brown base running around the flatbed scanner. The input tray can hold up to 50 sheets of paper and the output tray can hold 30 sheets, both of these can be folded away to reduce the size of the printer when not in use. The control panel to the left of the printer can be tilted up for easy viewing and has a 50mm mono LCD display with 7 membrane buttons which can be used to manage all print jobs.

Main Printer Advantages

The main selling point of the HP Deskjet 3050A is the price, it is extremely low for such a capable machine. The copy and scan functions are both quick and good quality and as well as the basic USB and wireless connectivity options there is some mobile printing support through applications such as HP ePrint and Apple AirPrint.

Main Printer Disadvantages

Unsurprising for the price the Hp Deskjet 3050a is not very fast when it comes to colour and mono printing, it can only reach speeds of up to 5.5ppm when printing in mono and 4ppm in colour mode. The paper handling is also very limiting at just 50 sheets you will have to regularly refill the input tray with any continued usage, there is also no extra features with the Deskjet 3050A such as an ADF or automatic duplex printing.

Running costs - Are the inks good value for money?

We think the HP DeskJet 3050A could have better running costs, potentially is greatest downfall. As this machine uses a 2 ink system they tend to be more expensive to run, the tri colour cartridge is extremely wasteful as if you run out of a colour you need to replace the whole cartridge.
