What printer cartridges does the HP DeskJet 3634 use?

The HP DeskJet 3634 uses black and tri-colour HP 302 and 302XL cartridges, our IJT-branded cartridges are available in the high capacity range 302XL. The standard Black can print up to 190 pages and tri-colour up to 165 pages; in contrast the high capacity black can print up to 480 pages and the tri-colour up to 330 pages. This is based on 5% coverage of an A4 page.

The HP DeskJet 3634 is a good all in one inkjet printer, it can perform all the basic print, scan and copy jobs desired from a budget multifunction printer. As well as the basic functions the HP 3634 has plenty of additional desirable features beyond just an ordinary printer.

Our thoughts on Design

The DeskJet 3634 comes in white with a 28.7mm LCD icon display on the top next to the flatbed scanner. The paper input tray can hold up to 60 sheets of plain paper while the output tray can hold a maximum of 25 sheets. The HP 3634 is an extremely compact printer with dimensions of 454 x 310 x 157.5 mm (WxDxH) without the input tray raised; the total weight is just 4.2Kg.

Main Printer Advantages

Despite being a basic all in one the Hp DeskJet 3634 has an impressive range of connectivity options; as well as USB and Wireless it is compatible with a number of mobile printing application such as HP ePrint, HP Smart App and Apple AirPrint. The size of the DeskJet 3634 is also a good selling point; it is small enough to fit in most home living and office spaces.

Main Printer Disadvantages

The HP 3634 does have a few limitations; as it is such a basic printer it is lacking an Automatic Document Feeder for scanning Multipage documents and automatic duplex printing support so each page has to be manually turned in order to achieve a double sided print. Also the paper input and output trays has quite low paper capacities so anyone with large printing loads will have to regularly refill the paper or empty the output tray.

Running costs - Are the inks good value for money?

In short the HP DeskJet 3634 doesn’t have good running costs. This is down to the 2 ink printing system it uses which relies on a tri-colour combined cartridge instead of individual colour cartridges. The tri-colour cartridge is extremely wasteful as you have to replace the whole cartridges when any one of the colours runs out wasting ink and money. It is possible to reduce your running costs by using our IJT branded recycled cartridges which cost less compared to original HP cartridges while being great quality and printing high page yields.
