What printer cartridges does the HP Envy 5640 e-All-in-One use?

The HP Envy 5640 uses the HP 62  IJT Direct branded ink cartridges. These inks are a 2 ink system consisting of a black & tri colour 62 and also the high capacity 62XL. The standard 62s can print up to 200 pages from black and 165 pages from colour. Whereas the high capacity version can print 600 pages from black and 415 pages from the tri colour cartridge. These numbers are based on 5% coverage of an A4 page.

Our thoughts on Design

The Envy 5640 has been finished in black and has an easy to use front touch screen display. The scanner type is flatbed and is situated on the top of the printer. You can stack up 125 sheets of A4 paper into the paper input tray.

Main Printer Advantages

The HP 5640 has a colour print resolution of up to 4800x1200 dpi allowing you to print pictures as well as documents. When printing documents don’t forget to make use of the automatic duplex function to save money on paper. The machine also has an automatic switch off, saving money on electricity bills.

Main Printer Disadvantages

The Envy 5640 has no ADF or fax function from new.  It’s also fairly slow, with print speeds of up to 12ppm.

Running costs - Are the inks good value for money?

We think the Hp Envy 5640e could have better running costs. As this machine uses a 2 ink system they tend to be more expensive to run, especially with the tri colour cartridge as if you run out of a colour you need to replace the whole cartridge.
