What printer cartridges does the HP OfficeJet 4658 use?

The HP Officejet 4658 uses a 2 ink system of IJT branded HP 302 ink cartridges. Our IJT Direct branded inks are supplied as high capacity cartridges known as 302XL, available for both black & tri colour. The standard 302 ink cartridges print up to 190 pages for black and 165 pages for the colour cartridge, whereas the high capacity inks can print up to 480 pages with the black cartridge and 330 pages for the tri-colour. These numbers are based on 5% coverage of an A4 page.

The DeskJet 4658 is a multifunction all in one A4 printer so it can print, scan, copy and fax so it covers all the base requirements of the standard home user and most of those of a business user.  

Our thoughts on Design

With dimensions of 369 x 190 x 445 mm (HxWxD), the HP 4658 still packs in loads of features including an automatic document feeder on top of the printer along with a flatbed scanner. HP had the good sense to include a 2.2” LCD screen on the front of the printer and an auto duplex function, both of which will be hugely beneficial for the home and business user. A fairly standard sized 100 sheet paper tray hides paper away neatly and the Wi-Fi and Apple AirPrint mean convenient wireless printing.

Main Printer Advantages

Print wirelessly using Wi-Fi, AirPrint and HP ePrint or even just via USB, the HP 4658 offers plenty of easy to use printing options. The automatic document feeder allows the user to load up to 35 sheets to copy or scan. It’s surprisingly fast and quiet with print speeds up to 18ppm in colour.

Main Printer Disadvantages

It’s main limitations is a lack of network connection, especially for business users that would like to allow multiple users to print to it without having to connect via USB. The 302 inks come in a black and tri-colour, which if one of cyan magenta or yellow runs out you’ll end up replacing the whole cartridge.

Running costs - Are the inks good value for money?

Sadly not no. The inks for the HP OfficeJet 4658 are not good value for money especially when replacing with original HP cartridges. The main reason being this printer is a 2 ink system so you have to replace the whole tri-colour cartridge every time you run out of just one colour.
