What printer cartridges does the Brother HL-L3230CDW use?

The Brother HL L3230CDW uses Brother TN243 and TN247 toners, each set has 4 colours; Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow. Each toner is available in a standard and high capacity. Our IJT branded toners are available in both. The standard TN243 toners can each print up to 1000 pages compare to the high capacity TN247 toner of which the black can print up to 3000 pages and each of the colours up to 2300 pages. This is based on 5% coverage of an A4 page.

The Brother HL L3230 CDW is a great home laser printer according to our IJT printer experts which would also be suitable in a small office. With fast printing speeds of 18 prints per minute for both mono and colour printing and multiple connectivity options the L3230CDW is an impressive entry level laser printer at an affordable price.

Our thoughts on Design

The HL L3230CDW is available in white with a 250 sheet input paper tray which can hold a4 paper up to 163gsm as well as a4 labels and a range of envelope sizes. The printer itself has a larger footprint of 410 x 461 x 252 mm (WxDxH) and a weight of 18kg, for controlling print jobs there is a 1 line LCD control panel on top of the printer. 

Main Printer Advantages

An excellent feature of the Brother Hl-L3230CDW is its quiet mode which creates minimal unnecessary noise. Being an LED Laser there are less moving parts which makes it perfect for desktop printing. As well as the automatic duplex which speeds up double sided printing and saves on paper consumption the Brother HLL3230CDW has both wired and wireless connectivity and compatibility for a range of mobile printing applications including Apple AirPrint, Mopria and Brother iPrint&Scan.

Main Printer Disadvantages

Despite automatic duplex printing being a great feature of the Brother HL-L3230CDW it does significantly slow down the printing speed to just 6 prints per minute. In addition and obvious from the dimensions above the HL-L3230CDW is quite large, it would not be suitable as a home office printer that you need to share a desk with. The control panel for managing print jobs is also very small on this printer and there is no touch screen or Bluetooth capability unlike lots of similar printers.

Running costs - Are the toners good value for money?
