The HP Color Laserjet pro MFP M277dw takes HP 201 toner available in standard (201A) and high capacity (201X). IJT branded toners are available in the high capacity. There are 4 toners in the set; Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow each standard black toner can print up to 1500 pages and each colour up to 1400 pages, whereas the high capacity black can print up to 2800 pages and the colours up to 2300 pages. This is based on 5% coverage of an A4 page.

Here at IJT Direct our printer experts think the HP M277dw is a good personal laser multifunction printer or could be used in a small office with light to medium duty. As expected for a laser printer the quality of text and graphics is very good with printing resolutions up to 600 x 600dpi. The HP MFP M277dw can be used to print, copy, scan and fax through a range of connectivity options; Ethernet, USB and Wireless including mobile printing.

Our thoughts on Design

The HP Color Laserjet Pro M277 dw comes in white, with a relatively small footprint of 420 x 398 x 322 mm (WxDxH) and a weight of 16.3kg. There is a 150 sheet capacity multipurpose paper input tray which can hold a range of media sizes and weights including special media like labels, envelopes and cards and a single sheet manual feed tray. This printer also has a 50 sheet ADF which lends to office use as it can speed up long multi-page jobs, for managing print jobs there is a 7.6cm colour touch screen.

Main Printer Advantages

Essential for business use the HP M277 dw comes with a suite of security and management features, this laser printer can also connect to a network through either Wireless or Ethernet connection. The auto duplex feature of the M277dw works for both the print and scanning features, and the ADF further simplifies scanning jobs.

Main Printer Disadvantages

A drawback to the HP LaserJet Pro M277 is the printing speeds which are just 18 prints per minute for both mono and colour prints, these are reduced to 11 images per minute when duplex printing. These speeds should be fine for home use but could be limiting in an office environment. Another disadvantage to the LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw is the paper capacity which is just 101 sheets; this again shouldn’t be an issue for home use although the single input tray does mean that in order to print anything longer than 1 page on a different media or size you need to swap out the paper in the main input tray.
