Our Expert review of the Amazon Kindle 7th Generation
What would you use it for?
An eBook reader is an alternative to carrying around your favourite paperback or hardback. It is in fact more than that, because you can carry around books you have read, are currently reading and plan to read, up to 2,200 in fact, all in a device that weighs less than a one of the books you have at home.
What’s good about it?
If you love reading like we do, the Kindle isn’t like a normal tablet; the e-ink touchscreen is the closest thing to reading a book on a tablet. Even the glare of direct sunlight doesn’t make a difference, the screen is still easy to read and it really is just like holding a book in your hands. The 4GB of built-in storage and WiFi connectivity means access to more books than we have on our shelves and access to hundreds of thousands more books from the Kindle store. Worried about having to charge it all up all the time? There really is no need with a battery life of up to 4 weeks between charges.
Are there any drawbacks?
We do love a book, and if you are like us you find nothing more satisfying than putting a book back on the shelf after being immersed in the pages then you won’t find that same satisfaction with a Kindle. You won’t find any physical buttons other than the power button so you’ll have to figure out how to navigate the Kindle, though this is probably something that will be a problem at the start rather than when you’re used to using it.
Are there alternative products available?
Quite a few yes, mainly other Amazon Kindles in different shapes, types and flavours.
