Refurbished Apple iPhone XR Smartphone

A powerful iPhone designed for everyday excellence, the iPhone XR showcases Apple's Liquid Retina display, faster Face ID and a powerful processor chip.

There's an iPhone XR for everybody.

Out with the old

The iPhone XR features one of the most advanced LCD screen ever found on a smartphone. The 6.1” screen provides a good balance between portability and visual impact, with a Liquid Retina HD design providing pin-sharp 326 pixels per inch screen density.

To give an uninterrupted front display, Apple has done away with the Home button; technophobes need not worry, however – thanks to Face ID, it takes just a glance to unlock your phone or a gentle swipe up to access features.

Designed for living

iPhone XR is rated IP67 for water resistance, meaning it's water resistant up to 1 metres for 30 minutes, and is sealed with a precision-fitted aerospace-grade aluminium band.

The glass covering the screen is also highly resistant to scratches, so you can just get on with using the device as intended.

Brilliant bionic

The A12 Bionic chip is a six-core CPU powerhouse, which gives you fantastic performance as well as energy efficiency. With Apple's next-generation Neural Engine, it uses real-time machine leaning to transform the way you use your apps.

It's up to 15% faster and 50% more energy efficient than the previous generation A11 chip. The 4 core Graphics Processing Unit is up to 50% faster than the A11 chip when using visually demanding apps, like games and video editing.

Fantastic photos

Thanks to its improved 12-megapixel camera and faster sensor, your iPhone XR is even better at shooting photos and videos. Using Apple's Image Signal Processor and the A12 chip's Neural Engine, it unlocks new creative possibilities.

Features include Smart HDR, bringing more highlight and shadow details to your photos; Bokeh background blur for standout portrait shots, and all-new Depth Control to adjust the depth of field after the photo has been taken.

Additionally, you can shoot 4K video up to 60 frames per second (fps) and 1080p slow motion up to 240fps.

iOS 17

Designed to make your iPhone experience faster and more responsive, iOS 12 makes it faster to do everyday tasks - for example, swiping to camera is up to 70% faster than previous iPhones, and the keyboard displays up to 50% faster than previous models.

You can FaceTime with up to 32 people at once, with tiles that automatically expand as people talk.

There's smarter ways to manage notifications and settings, intelligent shortcuts to pair your daily routine with the apps you use, and better privacy management when browsing the web.

Thanks to iOS 16 and iCloud, you can connect your Apple products automatically and make your everyday tasks easier. For example, stream videos from your iPhone XR to your television via your Apple TV 4K; everything's synced, so all your devices have the latest information.

What is augmented reality?

AR can cleverly merge information and digital objects with the environment around you, directly onto your phone screen. (If you've ever played or seen Pokémon Go, you have experienced AR already.).

When looking at your phone screen, this ingenious technology enables you to see (for example) handy navigation arrows on a street – aiding you towards a set location, or you could view and then shoot virtual aliens as they invade your living room.

Our Expert review of the Apple iPhone XR Smartphone

How it’s currently spec’d:

The refurbished iPhone XR, cheaper than both the X and the Xs but not quite as well spec’d as either. Apple have given the XR a 6.1” Liquid Retina display, which like the X doesn’t have a physical home button which means more actual screen to body. This iPhone XR has 64GB storage, 3GB RAM and will support the latest operating system, iOS 16. The XR also has a single rear 12MP camera as well as a front facing FaceTime camera that also doubles as Face ID for added security.

Where we think it excels:

The XR is an affordable option in Apple flagship mobile phone range. There isn’t too much sacrificed either. The screen is larger than the X, it has the same amount of RAM and a decent 64GB storage. The XR also has a newer processor and a longer possible battery life. It packs in the usual security features we have come to expect as well as updating to the latest Apple iOS 16 so you’ll be safe to use WhatsApp, popular banking apps, Instagram, Facebook and Netflix to name just a few. While the XR only has 1 rear camera, borrowed from the X, you still get super photos and amazingly smooth 4K video capture.

What we think its drawbacks are:

If only Apple offered built-in memory expansion, we are convinced there would then be almost complete and utter domination of the smart phone market. Sadly that continues to be a big drawback for iPhones, even more so as large capacity handsets are all the more expensive. Important to remember is lack of a 3.5mm Aux In for wired headphones, especially if you’re one of many that haven’t converted to true wireless earphones yet.

What we think of the design:

There is such little different between the iPhone X and the XR, the XR still feels very much a part of Apples premium range. The XR is also IP67 rated so it will happy deal with a light shower but can’t be submersed like its IP68 rated iPhone XS counterpart.

Who it’s suitable for:

Ideal for those looking for an upgrade to a far more feature full premium mobile phone.

Good phone and a good price

Good phone and a good price. Delivery rather longer than usual due to carrier delays.
