What printer cartridges does the Hewlett Packard DeskJet 1514 use?

The HP DeskJet 1514 uses a 2 ink system ofHP 301 ink cartridges. IJT Direct branded inks come in the high capacity version known as 301XL black & tri colour. The 301 black can print up to 190 pages and the colour is up to 165 pages. Whereas the 301XL cartridges can print up to 480 pages from black and 330 pages from the tri colour. These numbers are based on 5% coverage of an A4 page.

Our printer experts here at IJT Direct think the HP DeskJet 1514 is ideally suited to home user and especially to those currently in education. This machine can be used connected via USB to a PC or laptop and has a flatbed scanner so it can be used as a standalone copier.

Our thoughts on Design

The HP 1514 is a simple compact printer finished in a light grey plastic. It can be operated by a computer or the buttons on the top of the printer. The scanner lid is removable so you can easily take copies of awkwardly sizes originals.

Main Printer Advantages

The DeskJet1514 is fairly quick at printing for an inkjet printer with speeds of up to 20ppm black and 16ppm colour. With a print resolution of 4800x1200 coloured DPI you can print off photos as well as documents.  

Main Printer Disadvantages

The HP DeskJet-1514 can only be used stand alone or via USB to a computer so would limit most users. There is also no screen to access and of the printer settings so this would need to be done from a computer as well.

Running costs - Are the inks good value for money?

As this machine uses a 2 ink system they tend to be more expensive to run, especially with the tri colour cartridge as if you run out of a colour you need to replace the whole cartridge.
