Our Expert review of the Nokia 6.1Smartphone

How it’s currently spec’d:

Remember the name? Obviously we know Nokia hasn’t ever left the mobile phone/smartphone market but we were still surprised to get our hands on this. The Nokia 6.1 is fronted by a Full High Def 5.5 inch IPS screen with cornering Gorilla Glass, 32GB built in storage plus a MicroSD card slot for up to 256GB, 3GB RAM, front and rear cameras with 4K video capture, Android 10 and a rear fingerprint reader for extra security.

Where we think it excels:

At first glance the 6.1 looks and feels like a top of the line handset, which is helped by the aluminium unibody design. It’s no Nokia 3310 but you can tell Nokia built the 6.1 to withstand so rougher treatment with its single block body construction and Gorilla Glass strengthened screen. We wouldn’t risk treating this smartphone quite like a 3310 mind you!

What we think its drawbacks are:

Being picky we expected, or possibly hoped for the Nokia 6.1 to have, as the name would suggest, a 6.1 inch screen. So to be met with a 5.5 inch screen was a bit disappointing. It just feels a bit underwhelming when most of the budget, let alone flagship handsets are at least 5.9” or larger.

What we think of the design:

It looks good, especially because of the single piece of aluminium body. The blue with gold edging surprising doesn’t make it look tacky and the well placed fingerprint reader is easy to reach and remember the positioning without having to flip the handset over to check where exactly it is.

Who it’s suitable for:

Nokia have covered all bases really, which is something they used to do so well, and delivered a smartphone that is suitable for almost all users.
