Our Expert review of the OSRAM AirZing Mini In Car Purifier

How does it work and where would you use it?

The AirZing Mini is designed by OSRAM to be put in your car, van or lorry to clean the air in the cabin. It works by being mounted in front of an air vent and using a small internal fan, draws the air through the device over the titanium dioxide filter plate and then pushes out the clean filtered air. To get more scientific, the air that is pulled through the filter is irradiated by the 11 UV-A LEDs which creates a photonic-catalytic reaction which breaks down any viruses and bacteria in the air.

What’s good about it?

For such a small device it performs well above what you’d expect. OSRAM claim the AirZing Mini can clean up to 6.5 cubic meters of air an hour, which put in perspective would clean the air in a Ford Transit van cabin every 20 minutes or so. Air purifiers are a great idea, but what about the filter I hear you say? The AirZing Mini has a removable and washable filter so it can be used over and over rather than having to consider the extra expense of buying replacement filters. It’s also rechargeable via USB Type C and can be done on the go.

Does it work?

In practice it really does work! We only managed to try it out in the 5 door saloon not a van, but after a short time there was clean smelling air being pumped in to the cabin. There are no claims made by OSRAM about the AirZing Mini killing COVID-19, but it’s comforting to know that if you are sharing your vehicle with someone you usually wouldn’t, having this in-car air purifier going will potentially stop you both from catching anything nasty.

Are there any drawbacks?

Certainly none that we found in the short time we used it. It’s small, doesn’t make loads of noise and doesn’t need replacement filters constantly.
