Our Expert review of the Samsung Galaxy A40 Smartphone
How it’s currently spec’d:
Samsungs budget smartphone released in 2019 still has some quite brilliant spec especially considering it was released at the same time as Samsungs flagship Galaxy S10 range. A massive 5.9” Full HD+ Super AMOLED screen is all concurring bar an extremely thin bezel at the top and bottom. A notch camera hole that houses an almost unthinkable 25MP “selfie” camera at the top of the screen and no physical home button. On the back of the handset are a twin 16MP and 5MP ultra wide camera lenses and a fingerprint reader for extra security. Undress this A40 and you’ll find 64GB storage and MicroSD expansion as well as an 8 core processor and 4GB RAM.
Where we think it excels:
First impressions of the A40 and we didn’t think it looked or felt like a budget handset, if anything there is very little to separate it from Samsungs top of the line equivalents. The screen is big without being too big to use in one hand. While we are used to seeing handsets with huge storage, the 64GB built-in to the A40 is acceptable and is also backed up with MicroSD expansion so you can add another 512GB storage.
What we think its drawbacks are:
Once you have a hold of the A40, the materials and weight will make it feel on the cheaper side, but that is exactly where Samsung are marketing it at, the budget end, so we weren’t surprised by this. Don’t confuse this with expecting it to feel so cheap that is just disintegrates after 5 minutes of normal use, far from it in fact.
What we think of the design:
It looks premium and only on closer inspection does it present itself as a budget option. To almost any observer, take this out of your pocket and said person will see a decent sized handset with no physical home button, a tiny bezel around the screen and a twin camera on the back, all the hallmarks of a premium mobile phone.

The Samsung Galaxy A40 is a phone that’s great for the everyday user that’s looking for premium specs and budget prices.

Perfect mobile phone - Better than expected !
