Our Expert view of the Wilderness 2 Person Inflatable Kayak
What we think of the design:
As expected it’s a traditional design padded seats and some areas for storage. Aesthetically the contrasting colours make for a nice looking design.
What’s good about it?
Unlike a solid construction kayak you don’t need loads of extra space to store these or even a large vehicle or trailer to transport/tow them. They deflate to a size that could be transported in a Peel P50 (the smallest car in the world)! Perhaps that’s an exaggeration, but you get our point, even if you have a small hatchback you needn’t worry. It’s also lightweight and made of durable PVC so it doesn’t feel like it will fall apart in a light breeze. The best part though is the price. It isn’t throwaway but it won’t cost the earth to see if kayaking is something you’d like to do more than once!
Are there any drawbacks?
A max load of 160 kilograms sounds a lot, but once there are 2 of you plus the oars there isn’t huge amounts of weight allowance for packs. It’s absolutely fine for a day trip down river or on a lake with essentials but any longer trips and you’d struggle to fit everything without overloading it.
Are there alternative products available?
Lots of alternatives exist, whether you’re looking for inflatable or solid construction kayaks but the Wilderness comes at a price that doesn’t hurt your wallet and is great for beginners and more experienced riders.
