Our Expert review of the Apple iPhone 8
How it’s currently spec’d:
A step up from the iPhone 7, but perhaps not quite the leap Apple would want us to believe. On paper there is very little between them. This particular iPhone 8 has 256GB storage and 2GB RAM. The screen is 4.7” IPS Retina HD, the same as the 7. The 8 does have a newer and faster processor but the rest, such as the 12MP rear camera, IP67 waterproofing, and WiFi/Bluetooth.
Where we think it excels:
We aren’t sure if this handset excels exactly. Underneath it has had an upgrade from the iPhone 7 thought not a massive one at that. On the outside it looks the same as the 7 apart from being slightly larger and heavier. A couple of things that do set this particular 8 apart though, wireless charging and a huge 256GB storage. Unlike the iPhone 7, the 8 has both whereas the 7 storage started at 32GB which a premium being required for more storage.
What we think its drawbacks are:
This does feel like a stick with which we constantly beat Apple iPhones with, but unfortunately these particular sticks just won’t go away. Year after year Apple churns out a new iPhone without any memory expansion or a 3.5mm headphone jack which leaves you having to use a lightning adapter or Apples own earphones and paying for iCloud.
What we think of the design:
This is another reason why we feel the iPhone 8 isn’t much of an upgrade from the iPhone 7. They look the same and feel more or less the same in hand bar a slight weight increase in the 8. We still really like the 8 and of course we still believe Apple make beautiful Smartphone’s that will last and last.
Who it’s suitable for:
A handset that still holds its own, the iPhone 8 smartphone is perfect for business or personal use.
