Manufacturer Description

Unbelievably thin and light, the 13.3" MacBook Air is a portable yet powerful portable computer.

Made from lightweight aluminium, it features a whole host of great connectivity options, including USB 3.0 and a lighting fast Thunderbolt 2 port.

Tough, slim and very portable - the MacBook Air is your perfect partner for work, rest or play.

Thin, Light and Durable

Incredibly thin and light, MacBook Air 13" measures just 1.7cm at its deepest point and weighs an astonishing 1.35kg making it ideal to take with you.

The amazing portability of this machine is helped by the 128GB PCIe-based SSD. It doesn’t have any moving parts, which means it’s more reliable and quiet. Lightning fast, durable, silent — qualities that make sense in a laptop tasked with keeping up with you.

Despite its size, MacBook Air packs a full-size keyboard that makes typing as natural as it is comfortable. It’s also backlit, so you can type with ease in even the dimmest light.

Intel Core i5 Processing

The Intel Core i5 processor will handle whatever you throw at it, allowing you to multi-task and work on intensive applications without experiencing any lag.

Applications run faster and more efficiently than before. So everything you normally do on a computer you can do even quicker.

Send email, write reports, create presentations, touch up photos, edit home movies and all the little (and big) tasks in between.

The i5 uses the Intel HD Graphics 6000 GPU to ensure visuals are smooth whether you’re playing a game, watching a video or editing a photo.

All-Day Battery

MacBook Air features a large battery that works with the power-efficient fifth generation Intel Core processor to last all day.

You can expect up to 12 hours of battery life on a single charge when surfing the web or watching films from iTunes.

MacBook Air will also preserve its own battery life by entering standby mode after it’s been asleep for more than three hours, helping to conserve battery life for up to 30 days.

You can even continue to receive new emails and calendar invitations while your MacBook’s asleep by enabling Power Nap.

(Note: Battery performance figures from new, actual performance may be less)

Faster Connections

With 802.11ac Wi-Fi you’ll be able to connect to an 802.11ac router and experience wireless performance that’s up to 3 times faster than previous generations.

Bluetooth 4.0 will allow you to connect to Bluetooth enabled devices like speakers, headphones and other computers to stream and share files without wires.

Two USB 3.0 ports will allow you to connect peripheral items such as mice, printers or USB storage devices, and transfer data 10 times faster than USB 2.0 with compatible devices.

The Thunderbolt 2 port allows rapid transferring of files, so you’ll save time when trying to save large files in a hurry, delivering transfer speeds of up to 20 Gbps.

Visual Communications

The screen on the MacBook Air laptop is amazingly thin - just 4.86mm - but still manages to stand out, with a resolution of 1440 x 900 pixels and LED backlighting ensuring that colours are bright and vibrant from edge to edge.

The widescreen 720p FaceTime camera will let your friends and family see more of you in video calls and ensure that groups can fit into a picture without having to crowd around the display.

The dual microphones reduce background noise from behind the mics, so your speech will be as clear as your face.

Our Specialist view of the Apple MacBook Air A1466

The Spec:

The refurbished Apple MacBook Air A1466 model released in early 2015 has the following spec: a 13.3 inch HD screen is housed in a thin and lightweight chassis weighing less than 1.4kg and only 1.72 cm thick. An Intel Core i5-5250U 5th generation dual core processor, 4GB RAM, a 128GB Solid State Drive (SSD) and MacOS Monterey preinstalled.

The Good Bits:

This MacBook Air may have a smaller screen than most expect but there is no compromise in quality and performance. Apple makes excellent quality laptops and this particular A1466 doesn’t disappoint. It’s portable but with a large enough screen and powerful enough spec to make this an excellent solution for use at home or on the go. Despite it having a few miles on the clock since its early 2015 release it still supports and comes preinstalled with macOS Monterey, which has only just been succeed by macOS Ventura, so you can still benefit from some of the most recent features a up to date OS brings without having to pay through the nose for a new MacBook.

The Not So Good Bits:

No Apple product ever comes without some form of limitation. These are minor but there is no optical drive, only a couple of USB ports and no standard video output such as VGA or HDMI. Not every bit of software is available to download online so there would be need for an external optical drive and the small number of USB ports limits the amount of peripherals that can be used at any one time. Apple requires you to use a Thunderbolt adapter so you can connect to an external display. Another issue we take up is the keyboard language, especially being UK based users. We’d like to see a £ sign, which this doesn’t have.

The Design:

One thing that is guaranteed with Apple, the MacBook you buy is not going to disappoint because of its looks. The aluminium chassis is super think and the magnetic lid catch, backlit keyboard and light up Apple logo on the back of the lid all add to this beautiful laptop.

Suitability:

The operating system is packed with loads of creativity tools and is so easy to use; we believe this MacBook Air would be the perfect fit for any student doing creative courses at college or university.
