What we think of the design:

A wood burning station or pyography kit is something else we haven’t used before so it’s difficult to compare it to other such devices but on initial inspection it’s a solid construction and on first glance comes with enough equipment to get an amateur or experienced pyograher going.

What’s good about it?

We asked ourselves what we’d want in a wood burning kit and decided that the most important thing how quickly it heats up. The Holife doesn’t disappoint in getting hot just over 20 seconds so you’re not sat for minutes waiting to get stuck in to your next project. It also has a great range of temperatures from 450 degrees all the way up to 750. This range lends it to being suitable for use on a range of different materials. The dual-switch design is a simply but really important part of the build, especially if you have young children.

Are there any drawbacks?

The one thing it seems the kit is lacking is something to remove the tips when they are hot so you don’t then have to wait for the ZD-8905 to cool down, change the tip and then heat up again before you can continue using it. Admittedly this would be all of 1 minute or so but if the creative juices are flowing the last thing you’d want is to have to stop/start.

Are there alternative products available?

There are a range of different wood burning kits available that will suit different budgets with the Holife ZD-8905 falling toward the beginner end of the scale.
