What to Know Before you Cancel HP Instant Ink

A lot of people don’t realise that once you cancel your HP Instant Ink subscription, those cartridges will no longer work in your printer once the billing period is over. Now, if you’re anything like me, you may have left the task of cancelling the subscription until the last 1 or 2 days before you have to pay again.

This is absolutely fine, but just keep in mind that even if your Instant Ink cartridge is still full, it will no longer work in your printer once you hit that cancel button and the billing period ends. So, I recommend having some normal HP ink cartridges ready to go so you can keep printing. You can browse our collection of recycled HP ink cartridges here

Sign in to your HP account

  1. To cancel your HP Instant Ink Subscription, you’ll first need to sign in to your HP account.

  2. Once signed in, select My Account.

Make sure you have the right printer

If you have multiple HP printers, you’ll need to select the correct one that you’re wanting to cancel HP Instant Ink for.

If you don’t know the serial number of the printer, go and check on the back of the printer. There will be a sticker with a 10 digit number. Write it down.

  1. Locate HP Instant Ink in the My Account menu

  2. From the drop down, select Overview

  3. Locate the status area, then select Printer Details

  4. Verify that the serial number shown is your printer

  5. If this serial number is not the correct printer, find the current printer’s name and click Select Printer underneath to choose a different printer.

How to Cancel Your Instant Ink Subscription

  1. Make sure you’ve selected HP Instant Ink, then Overview

  2. Find the Plan Details section

  3. Note down when the next billing date is - this will be the last payment you have to make

  4. Select Cancel My HP Instant Ink

  5. Follow the on-screen instructions

Verify that the subscription has been cancelled

You will receive an email almost straight away to confirm the cancellation of the HP Instant Ink subscription. If you don’t, make sure to contact HP Support.

Finally, you will receive another email from HP at the end of your Instant Ink billing cycle. This is also when the last payment will be charged to you and the Instant Ink cartridges will stop working in your printer (even if they have some ink left).

What to do After Cancelling HP Instant Ink Subscription

The good news is that you now have a lot more freedom to choose how much you pay for your ink. I recommend that you purchase recycled ink cartridges from a reputable third party supplier (like us!?).

Recycled cartridges are not only better for the environment and 100% guaranteed to be compatible with your printer, they will also save you a lot of money. Find out more about genuine vs recycled cartridges here.
