Our Expert review of the iON Cool-iCam S1000 Waterproof Digital Camera
What would you use it for?
The S1000 takes great photos and videos including under water up to 3 meter deep.
What’s good about it?
The iON Cool-iCam takes excellent quality photos and videos. There are various different settings for white balance and a 10 second self timer for those larger group shots that you’d want to be in and not stuck the other side of the lens. The 2.4” screen on the rear of the camera is really useful for making sure those photos are the best they can be. Best of all is the waterproof rating to 3 meters. Basically, check this camera in the pool on holiday or give it to your kids and don’t worry about it getting damaged or breaking.
Are there any drawbacks?
The 4x zoom is good but does fall down at the top end of the zoom capacity so don’t expect amazing quality any great distance. A built-in rechargeable battery would have been much better rather than AAA batteries but you could use rechargeable AAAs so again it’s not a major drawback. Finally, this camera takes MicroSD memory cards rather than SD or SDHC.
Are there alternative products available?
There are so many different types of compact digital camera available but not that many we could find that offer rugged performance and with dual front and rear screens.
