Our Expert review of the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1” Tablet
How it’s currently spec’d:
The refurbished Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 SM-T585 is spec’d as follows: A 10.1” HD+ 1920 x 1200 resolution touchscreen display with 16million colour depth, an 8 core processor, 32GB storage and 2GB RAM. With all of this Samsung also include WiFi Bluetooth and 4G (cellular) connectivity as well as front and rear cameras of 8MP and 2MP respectively. Android operating is installed on this tablet with support for 8.1 Oreo.
Where we think it excels:
Samsung 10.1 inch tablets along with iPads are what most people are accustom to, they are easy to use and provide a sharp display with plenty of useable space. The Samsung Tab A is no expectation to this and you’ll also find plenty of storage spec plus MicroSD card expansion, which is a very inexpensive way to increase the amount of storage available to the user. Providing a safe and secure space for kids to browse and play is more important than it has ever been. Thankfully Samsung have considered this has included Kids Mode 4.0.
What we think its drawbacks are:
We can’t say we encountered any real drawbacks, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A performs as we expected and has a operating system that still allows for the latest apps to be used so it still appeals to such a wide audience. The issue it faces is when you start comparing it to the much more recent offerings from Samsung and Apple especially. The screen isn’t quite as bright and sharp as the Super Retina or Super AMOLED screens, nor is there quite a much screen space because it has physical buttons.
What we think of the design:
It’s just starting to look a little dated because it has a home button and quite a wide bezel. Most up to date models have done away with a home button in favour of more screen space. The Tab A is still light enough to be used in 1 hand and thankfully you’ll find a 3.5mm headphone jack if you haven’t go wireless headphones.
Who it’s suitable for:
Very much a tablet for the causal home user or even for children with its large screen and Kids Mode.
